WTG Foundation Engineer


Due to continued success and a growing demand from our clients, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated WTG Foundation Engineer to join our team of engineers based in central London (Bristol base may also be considered).

Ideally, the successful candidate will be a highly numerate and enthusiastic individual, with an advanced degree in Civil / Structural / Mechanical / Wind Engineering, Naval Architecture or a suitable equivalent.

The WTG Foundations Engineer will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in design and engineering of WTG foundations in the offshore environment. Applicants should be a member of a professional organisation with a commitment towards continuing professional development and should be chartered or working toward chartered engineer status.

WTG Foundation Engineer

Essential Experience:

  • Proven knowledge of structural dynamics, WTG aerodynamic and hydrodynamic loading on marine structures.
  • In depth knowledge of fatigue and fracture of offshore structures.
  • Concept and detailed design of offshore wind turbine foundations (primarily monopiles and / or jackets).
  • Ability to develop cost, time, resource estimates and project schedules for structural engineering scopes of work.
  • Ability to manage small teams of engineers and draftsmen to deliver specialist services to our clients, sometimes within tight timeframes.
  • Extensive use of structural analysis / FEA software e.g. SESAM, SACS, BLADED, Ansys, ABAQUS etc.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of developing and implementing software tools to solve complex analytical / numerical problems in an efficient manner, i.e. using MATLAB, VBA, Python or C#.
  • Working knowledge of aero-elastic analysis methods (blade element momentum, wake modelling and WTG control systems).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive analysis, design and technical review of offshore wind foundation structures for a large portfolio of international clients.
  • Assist with the delivery of projects to deliver optimum solutions, on time and to budget.
  • Attend regular internal meetings and external or third-party meetings as required.
  • Ensure deliverables are completed in full compliance with approved instructions, procedures and policies.
  • Liaison with internal and external project interfaces.
  • Occasional R&D projects and in-house software development.

Competencies & Soft Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills with the confidence to liaise with clients.
  • Be self-motivated, well organised and a team player.
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work.
  • Developed knowledge of engineering principles and practices coupled with the ability to select and apply standard guides, methods, and techniques.

Additional Information:

  • SLPE’s office is located in central London, and it is expected that some office-based working will be required for this role. However, a degree of remote and/or flexible working will be considered for the right candidate. A Bristol base may also be considered.
  • Travel to and from Northern Europe for short periods of time should be expected.
  • Flexible working attitude and availability to work outside normal hours if required.
