Celebrating Career Progression: SLPE Welcomes Promotions For Our Engineers

We are delighted to celebrate the recent promotions of Miles Newton and Abdel Salem to Senior Engineer and Mirco Morrone to Specialist Engineer.

Each has demonstrated their technical expertise, commitment and ability to take on increasing responsibility across a range of complex offshore wind projects. Their promotions recognise the contribution they have already made to SLPE, while marking an exciting next step in their careers.

Since joining SLPE, Miles Newton has continued to develop his technical expertise and make a valuable contribution across a range of offshore wind projects.

Over the past year, Miles has worked extensively on Centre Manche, alongside supporting work across North Sea Connector 2, Bretagne Offshore Substation Jacket and Méditerranée Offshore Substation Jackets. He also successfully delivered the first revision of the FLS report on time, which, as Miles himself puts it, is an uncommon achievement!

Reflecting on his promotion, Miles said: “I’m really proud that this promotion recognises the hard work I’ve put in at SLPE. I’ve valued the opportunities I’ve had to develop my skills and contribute to a range of projects. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow within my role, taking on more responsibility and contributing even further to the success of our projects.”

Miles’ promotion reflects his continued development as an engineer and the valuable contribution he makes across SLPE’s project teams. We look forward to seeing him continue to take on new challenges and build on his experience as a Senior Engineer.

Abdel Salem has consistently demonstrated technical excellence since joining SLPE, taking ownership of key engineering scopes and establishing himself as a trusted member of the team.

Most recently, Abdel has been delivering monopile concept designs and advanced temporary stability work for the Inch Cape project, while managing the geotechnical and scour interface between SLPE and our subcontractors across several substation projects, including Centre Manche 1, Bretagne Offshore Substation Jacket and Méditerranée Offshore Substation Jackets.

Beyond project delivery, Abdel has also played an important role in supporting winning bids and helping to validate and improve SLPE’s in-house software tools, contributing to innovation and continuous improvement across the business.

Reflecting on his promotion, Abdel said: “I’m proud of how I’ve adapted after moving into a new industry. Taking ownership of technical scopes and building strong relationships with clients has been incredibly rewarding, and this promotion is a great milestone in my career.”

Looking ahead, Abdel is excited to take on larger detailed design packages and continue progressing towards an engineering management role.

His promotion is a testament to the pace of his development, his technical expertise and his willingness to take ownership of increasingly complex engineering challenges.

Mirco Morrone has also taken an important step forward in his career, progressing from FEA Engineer to Specialist Engineer.

Recently, Mirco has been working on the transportation analysis and grout connection design for the Bretagne Offshore Substation Jacket. His work has involved assessing the structural behaviour of the jacket during transportation, as well as contributing to the design and verification of the grout connection.

One of Mirco’s key achievements has been developing and assessing the jacket design in its horizontal transportation position, ensuring that the proposed configuration is structurally suitable and safe throughout the transportation phase.

This work has provided Mirco with the opportunity to take on greater technical responsibility and contribute directly to an important stage of the project.

Reflecting on his promotion, Mirco said: “This promotion represents an important milestone in my professional development. It is recognition of the progress I have made, the responsibilities I have taken on, and the contribution I have made to the team and our projects. It also motivates me to continue developing both technically and professionally and to take on increasingly challenging responsibilities.”

Looking to the future, Mirco plans to continue strengthening his technical expertise in offshore structural engineering while taking greater ownership of engineering tasks and projects.

He also sees his new role as an opportunity to support the development of others within the team, particularly by mentoring and supporting graduate and junior engineers, sharing his knowledge and experience, and contributing to their technical and professional development.

The promotions of Miles, Abdel and Mirco represent three different career journeys, but each demonstrates the same qualities that are so important to engineering at SLPE: technical excellence, ownership, continuous development and a willingness to take on new challenges.

From offshore foundation design and temporary stability to transportation analysis, grout connection design and the development of in-house engineering tools, our engineers work across a diverse range of technical challenges supporting the delivery of major offshore wind projects.

As SLPE continues to grow, so too do the opportunities for our people to develop their careers, broaden their experience and take on greater responsibility.
