Since our time with St John Ambulance last year, when we explored the practical approaches that can be taken to help spot the signs of a person experiencing a mental health issue, we have become increasingly aware of the importance of improving staff health and wellbeing in the workplace.

With this in mind, our Management Assistant, Hannah Mills, one of our trained mental health first responders, has been arranging 1-2-1 sessions with each of our employees to discuss any issues or concerns that people may wish to discuss.

“Mental health issues are more common than a lot of people think, but there are positive steps that can be taken to offer people support”, said Hannah. “Beyond the more usual ‘open door’ strategy, we have taken a more proactive approach at SLPE that is intended to normalise discussions around mental health, encourage open workplace dialogue, and increase the chances of offering support to someone in need.

“For anyone who wants to know more, I would recommend utilising St John Ambulance’s resources, which can be freely accessed from their website". The measures outlined above are part of our SLPE Mental Health Strategy, which forms part of our strategy to promote both mental and physical health and wellbeing in the workplace. For anyone who would like to know more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
