SLPE Selected to Deliver Detailed Jacket and Foundation Design for North Sea Connector 2 (NSC2)

22 June 2026

SLPE is delighted to announce its involvement in the North Sea Connector 2 (NSC2) project following the recent award by 50Hertz to the Siemens Energy and Neptun Smulders Offshore Renewables (NSORe) consortium for the delivery of a new 2GW HVDC offshore grid connection system in the German North Sea.

The NSC2 project represents a significant milestone for both SLPE and our parent company, Smulders, marking our entry into the German 2GW HVDC offshore transmission market. The project comprises the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of a next-generation 2GW HVDC offshore converter platform designed to connect offshore wind generation to Germany’s electricity grid and support the country’s energy transition ambitions.

As the exclusive substructure designer within the NSORe consortium, SLPE supported the successful tender phase and will now undertake the detailed design of the converter platform jacket and foundations. This appointment reinforces SLPE’s position as a leading specialist in offshore structural engineering and highlights the confidence placed in our technical expertise for large-scale offshore energy infrastructure projects.

The jacket structure will be fabricated by Smulders at its yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, drawing upon the extensive capabilities and offshore delivery experience within Smulders.

NSC2 is one of the first projects based on the new 2GW HVDC platform standard and represents an important step forward in the development of offshore transmission infrastructure in Europe. The project will play a key role in enabling the integration of large volumes of renewable energy from the North Sea into the German grid.

Commenting on the award, Luke Jacques, Director at SLPE, said:

“We are extremely proud to be part of the team delivering NSC2 and to continue supporting the offshore energy transition through innovative engineering solutions. Having supported NSORe throughout the tender process, we look forward to working closely with our partners to deliver this landmark project successfully.”

This award represents another important chapter in SLPE’s continued growth within the offshore transmission sector and further strengthens our role in delivering critical infrastructure for Europe’s renewable energy future.

We look forward to sharing further project updates as work progresses.
