Wind4Kids: Inspiring Future Engineers

The team at SLPE recently returned to the classroom as part of our ongoing partnership with Wind4Kids, an educational programme designed to inspire young people in our local community to explore engineering in offshore renewable energy.
As the offshore wind sector grows, it is vital to educate the younger generation in its importance in reducing carbon emissions, driving economic growth, and how it fosters innovation. We may even be able to recruit some young engineers whilst we are there…
“During our recent visit we saw first-hand how this initiative captures young imaginations,” said Miles Newton, Structural Engineer II. “Students enthusiastically tested turbine designs, explored blade efficiencies, and discussed engineering solutions, bringing energy and curiosity to every activity.
“Wind4Kids offers an exciting, hands-on approach to teaching children about renewable energy. By building and testing mini turbines, students gain an engaging introduction to engineering concepts that could one day lead them to careers in offshore wind. It’s amazing knowing that we might inspire a future turbine designer or offshore engineer, which makes this work so rewarding.”
“At SLPE, we’re proud to help demystify engineering and make it accessible to everyone, especially underrepresented groups,” said Sandra Fiano, Management Assistant. “Diversity and inclusion are key to the future of offshore wind, and programmes like Wind4Kids can help drive that change.”
